In Yume Nikki (Dream Diary), you’re cast as a young girl living in a small apartment. There is very little to do in your room, but fall asleep and an entire dream world is yours to explore. The Z key can be used to interact or gain new effects. Certain locations beyond each door may yield more than one effect for the player to discover. Press 9 to wake yourself up. Use the desk in the room to save your progress, and hold the escape key for more than two seconds to exit the NASU console game.
Acquiring the bicycle, lamp and knife should be at the top of your list, as these items will double your character’s speed, light up dark areas and allow basic attack moves to be executed. Nearly all locations are wrapped around, hence walking in one direction endlessly will always bring you back to the starting point.

Would it be possible to make a zipped binary of the english version of this game without going through the daunting little installation?
I have a feeling that the installation is a prerequisite, as the author of the game uses a funky naming process for all the files – interpretable only with the language pack… 🙁

Yume Nikki might or might not be your cup of tea; there’s a lot of walking to do in empty spaces, so it’s recommended to take a look at the gameplay video before going through the hassle of getting it to work as well.
And I’m not sure what you guys mean by not expecting to see the game here…

Hah, I knew this would appear on here. I thought it was great, some of the art and scenery is pretty sweet.

I like it. But it’s a pity that it keeps crahing when changing locations. For instance it’s 5th door (ccw) in doors room – one of such places. :_(
Apparently, the version being distributed cannot play MP3s, leading to crashes when you enter certain areas. A temporary fix is to simply rename all the MP3s the game uses – if it can’t find them, it won’t crash. (Or at least, it’s not seeming to have any problems without them)
There should be 8 MP3s altogether, though I don’t know if all of them are used.

Actually, I don’t think that’s the problem, assuming the same happens for you as me. Here’s how I fixed it;
Start up Yume Nikki.
Hit Alt+Enter to put it into windowed mode.
Enter the game and find one of the areas with MP3 background music (I’m assuming you HAVEN’T renamed your MP3s here, if you have change them back).
Okay, Yume Nikki’s screen went black like before right? BUT, you should notice ffdshow has popped up a dialog behind the game window asking if Yume Nikki should be allowed to use it for mp3 playback.
Say yes, always allow it to use ffdshow and click okay.
Yume Nikki should have no more problems with mp3s. 🙂
holy crap this looks really horrible.
Please do not insult Yume Nikki. It is a very conceptual and artistic game that is definitively meant to be played, not watched. You need to be open minded and in the mood for odd, surrealistic and possibly scary things to play it.
The point of the game is to explore and experience rather than actually playing and reaching the objective. In fact, many people find the result of Madotsuki’s quest horribly unsatisfying. (or simply horrible -kufufu-)
Anyways, since the game is free, I do not even see the point of looking at a youtube preview, you should just go ahead and try the game. Once you try, then I am fine with you making your judgement.

Wow thanks for the virus packed in with this game.
So i downloaded this game a while ago and was really amazed with it and its very deep and thought provoking blah blah blah.
So, anyway, i wanted to download all the music from it because i really like the tracks and the only link to the .mp3’s of the game turned out to have been taken down a while ago and i was wondering if anyone here knows how to open the game’s music files or knows of any link to a dependable download to the music. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

You may need to use compatibility mode.
It uses RPG Maker 2003, so try to run other games made under that program and see if they work.
