When I first saw Tale of Maledict back in January, I wasn’t really sure what to think. The game was finally released this week after two years of work, and for the first 15 minutes of play, I still wasn’t sure what to think. The character animations are jarring, the action feels a little wonky and wooden, and dying over and over again was getting my goat a bit.
However, it’s worth sticking it out and venturing downwards, as Tale of Maledict definitely becomes more and more intriguing as you venture further into it. It has Metroidvania-style progression, boss battles, power-ups and a very creepy yet enchanting world to explore.
Don’t let the first chunk of play put you off too easily, as you may well find yourself enjoying this if you push on further. I’d suggest using an Xbox controller if you have one. Download from the Tale of Maledict site.
