Tokyo Game Show has announced that Sony is going to be sponsoring both the Indie Game Area, which is going to be in the main hall this year, and Sense of Wonder Night. Sony will be paying the exhibition fee for all of the booths in the Indie Game Area, making it free for the indie game developers. A booth in the Indie Game Area normally costs each developer 99,900 yen (almost $1000 USD) to have a booth on all four days or 32,400 yen to exhibit on public days only. To accomodate this late development, the Indie Game Area application cutoff date has been extended from May 30th to June 11th. Applications for Sense of Wonder Night are still open until July 7th.
A maximum of 50 developers will be accepted to display their games each day in the Indie Game Area, plus up to 10 Sense of Wonder Night finalists who will be offered special exhibition space on the public days. Last year, there were 41 developers in the Indie Game Area, representing 10 different countries.
