Humans have shot down the wrong bird in Way of the Red, a high-flying, acrobatic game of violent swordplay starring an extremely-mobile swordsbird. By learning new tricks from hidden characters and from the mysterious red seeds littered throughout the game’s world, you’ll gain even more abilities that will let you carve up anything that gets in your way.
Our heroic bird’s adventure begins due to one thing: boredom. Being one of the last of your kind and feeling you lack purpose, you set out to find a childhood love, instead discovering a group of humans who capture you and enslave you. They toil under an evil king who seeks the power of the red seeds that are scattered throughout the world, and soon, you realize his fate, as well as that of your lost love, are tied together, giving you a reason to pick up that blade again.
They’ll be sorry for granting you that purpose, as this bird whips across the screen in a flurry of swipes. Fast-paced sidescrolling swordplay is what Way of the Red is all about, giving you an array of attacks based around mobility. You can string together your moves in combos, use leaping attacks to keep your opponents at bay, and just generally rip enemies to shreds.
A feathery dervish needs your help to explore the land and cut down his enemies. Will you join him?
Way of the Red is available for $7.99 on Steam. For more information on the game and developer Corey Hardman, you can head to the game’s site or follow them on YouTube and Twitter.
