Jimmy’s imagination is being taken over by a rather unpleasant mass, but luckily, the young boy’s active mind allows him to picture himself as various monsters and creatures, each offering him a range of abilities that will let him thump foes and solve puzzles around the colorful, charming world of Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass.
Jimmy’s dream world is a vibrant place, one filled with unique creatures and horrors creeping at the edge of the subconscious. You’re tasked with helping Jimmy through this world, meeting various monsters as you explore the various locales, then learning how to pretend to be them so you can use their abilities later on. Jimmy may not be able to knock down some fruit from a tree, but perhaps his ostrich form can. Likewise, being a slime creature has some benefits in tight spaces, encouraging players to let their imaginations go and use their creativity to get through challenging situations. Likewise, these powers help in a fight, with each monster leveling up like a playable class, letting players grow thier own favorite creature.
Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass has an innocent appearance, but it’s not long before some unsettling elements start to take hold, telling a frighteningly grown-up story despite being focused on a kid and his family. It aims to tell a story of a boy’s self doubts and feelings toward his family, as well as explore the things that creep about the back of our minds when we fall asleep.
Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass is available for $14.99 on Steam. For more information on the game and developer Kasey Ozymy, you can grab the demo from RPGMaker.net or follow them on Tumblr, YouTube, and Twitter.
