‘Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion’ Mixes Adorable Veggies & Government Corruption

Posted on January 30, 2020January 31, 2020 by Julia Couture

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion enlists a full cast of vegetables to tell the tale of a rogue turnip who must take on a crooked government.

Yes, you read that title right, and I’m glad you’re just as curious as I was about this deceptively-cute adventure. You’ll be solving puzzles, fighting some baddies, and, hopefully clearing your debt to Mayor Onion.

In such a cheerful, pixel-arty world, how could such a terrible government thrive? Luckily, our menacing turnip protagonist is here to save the day and sow the seeds of justice. Literally. You will be able to enjoy a little bit of a farming aesthetic by being able to grow the tools they need. Want a sword? Plant the right seed and show it some tender love and care! A sword you shall have.

With this mechanic, you can build an arsenal of plant-like weaponry, and you’re going to need it. Just about everything wants to get in the way of your plans to overthrow the government and pay back your debt to Mayor Onion. With a trusty sword at your side, you’ll be able to take on some tough enemies (including a King Pig) and pave the way for your uprising. The Zelda-like combat certainly keeps the blood (if Turnips had any) pumping. You’ll even have some plants that can double as bombs, which can blast your enemies for a ton of damage if you time them right.

The draw of this game isn’t just the hilarious premise – the art style is absolutely adorable. It’s hard to picture this turnip being anything of a menace. Until he finds a book on how to do his taxes and promptly shreds it up. This turnip is ready to turn the town on its head while avoiding his awful, awful taxes.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion has a demo available on itch.io.
