In the world of Death and Taxes, even being a Grim Reaper is an office job. Make the right calls about who passes away and there just might be a cushy promotion in it for you!
So, you’re Death. The capital letter personified one. Well, one of many of them, and you’re working at an office where you need to deal with this influx of paperwork about people. All kinds of folks come through the papers on your desk, and your one job is to decide if they deserve to live or not. Seems simple and something that will be totally consequence free, right? Surely there will be no ill effects if you suddenly bring about the end of someone’s existence.
This might sound like a lot of pressure, but there are benefits for doing it well! You will be paid for your services, and you can use that money to buy nice new things that you can use to brighten up that desk of yours. Who doesn’t want a few knick-knacks for their living space, even if someone had to die for you to get it? Maybe your boss will promote you, or at least give you a casual thumbs up when they pass you in the hall.
Death and Taxes has some unsettling things to say about how we act in the performance of our duties in the pursuit of personal wealth, and some rather nice things to say about how some might be surprised at how important they are in the world. Lots of thoughtful messages all around for a lighthearted game about being an office-working grim reaper, honestly.
Death and Taxes is available now on Steam.
