Even if you’re a very busy little girl trying to find eternal happiness for your mommy (despite some unsettling things happening around you), you should always take time to pet the animals.
Little Misfortune follows an imaginative little girl, Misfortune Ramirez Hernandez, as she sets out into the world to bring something really nice home to her mom. This being a game from the folks behind Fran Bow, you’ll likely find some deeply unsettling things going on during the poor girl’s journey. Not that she can’t handle it with her positive attitude and the power of her imagination, though.
Little Misfortune‘s charming, yet macabre world leaves you continually wondering what reality is. Is Misfortune’s imagination running wild, creating the unsettling aspects of this world, or is it the only thing allowing a child to maintain her innocence when everything around her is filled with horror and monstrosity. I have my own thoughts, given the developer’s previous work in the power of hope and innocence that can come from a child, but it’s up to you to figure out what this all means for yourself.
And even if you are confused and don’t know which reality to believe, at least you’ll get to solve some clever puzzles, explore a frighteningly cute story filled with adorably scary characters, and pet some delightful creatures you find throughout the game. No matter how dangerous something may look, a good petting can always brighten their day.
Wait, that’s terrible advice. Never listen to me.
Little Misfortune is available now on the Humble Store, GOG, and Steam.
