Getting hit with a real dodgeball stings, but what if it also turned you to stone? And was thrown by someone keeping perfect timing to some electronic music?
Super Dodgeball Beats mixes rhythm and sports with a high-energy visual style, having you pit your team of players against a variety of wild opponents from across the globe. These varied teams will bring vampires, thunder-powered ancients, and more to bear against your group of dodgeball students, so you’ll have to make sure your throws are all in perfect tune to the beat if you want to win.
If your timing is a bit rough, you can use some power-ups to make things a bit more in your favor. Grenades can make your hits sting just the tiniest bit more, poison might make your opponents a bit too sick to play, and stone golems can freeze a whole team. Mind you, your opponents intend to use some nasty powers on you as well, so don’t think you’re the only one messing with how the game’s played.
If you’ve laid waste to your AI opponents, you can always go find a friend to pick on (what’s a dodgeball game without whipping a buddy in the face?). You can do a local multiplayer match against a buddy, choosing from several teams and a bunch of tracks to see who is the better dodgeball player AND who has the best sense of rhythm. As I have neither, I expect to be destroyed quickly. But at least the game will look nice as I’m decimated.
Super Dodgeball Beats is available now on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam.
