The Wreck takes you to a moment in time that has the power to change everything. And you have to make the pivotal decision that will either save or doom you.
If you ever think back to your most traumatic day, you probably have a lot of thoughts and memories. In the current demo for The Wreck, you get to take a look into someone else’s traumatic life, see how they deal with it, and work through other memories that appear around you as you try to process this awful day.
You play as Junon, a failed screenwriter with a famous artist as a mother. She’s just received some very traumatic news involving her mom. You seem to have had a rough relationship with her – she is an artist, and you helped her in her work, acting as an assistant of sorts, which seemed to have affected your relationship.
Your mother is currently in the hospital and you need to make decisions that will change everyone’s life forever. This is sudden, and a difficult burden on you. Thinking back, you start to remember things, finding moments to cling to as you hope to understand more of what she would expect of you.
This is a narrative-driven game where you can click on highlighted words in thoughts to unlock different ways to talk to the people around you, changing the dialogue. You can also revisit memories as well to find out more detailed information about yourself and your situation. When you are inside a memory, you can rewind and fast forward through it, picking up on details and following new paths to see what you remember and what you can take from these moments.
The game, so far, does a good job of showcasing inner monologue and unveiling memories memories that tell you more about the story when examined in detail. The demo of The Wreck is really captivating, and the voice acting and visual effects are wonderfully done. I personally cannot wait to see the full game.
The Wreck is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
