The work of an unpaid intern is fraught with danger in Going Under, but luckily you can turn any piece of office equipment into a weapon with enough determination.
Tech startups have been going under left and right, but more literally than you might expected. When a business fails, it sinks beneath the ground with its employees along with it, carrying their precious office supplies deep into the earth. As an intern, you need to go out and retrieve those valuables so that your boss can make some extra cash. And it’ll look good on your resume.
With such a ridiculous premise, Going Under offers some silly combat situations to go with it. In the PAX East demo I tried, I entered a dungeon filled with office-working goblins who did not appreciate me trying to take their supplies. To stop them, I had to grab whatever I could get my hands on, be that a potted plant, office chair, or unused laptop, and start bashing colorful enemies with it. This lead to some frantic fights where I found myself constantly scrambling for a new tool to use, replacing old ones as they broke.
Doing so in such a vibrant, colorful environment made it that much more appealing. Goblins in business casual attire – goblins that I’d be thumping with a massive decorative vase – was just too silly a thing to pass up. This floppy art style just made for a delightful package when tied into the combat and story, making for a dungeon crawler I was happy to keep picking at over and over again. It’s hard, don’t get me wrong, but everything that’s happening is just so absurd and funny when you think about it that it’s hard not to smile during your time with Going Under, which made for some great times at PAX East 2020.
Going Under is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
