After Hours tells the story of a young woman suffering from borderline personality disorder that stems from childhood trauma.
CONTENT WARNING: Sexual Abuse, Child Abuse
Inspired by true events, After Hours will have you following the woman and her life, seeing her thoughts and the jarring shifts in her mood that come with the disorder. You will follow in her life for a time, making available decisions that capture the challenges of the disorder and give you a glimpse into what it is like to live with this childhood trauma and its aftermath.
After Hours aims to tell its story in a way that helps show that there are other aspects in the lives of those who suffer from mental illness, taking away some of the stigma by bringing the player into the day-to-day experience. Still, it explores how the stigma does not help matters, adding another difficulty in a life that is already beyond challenging.
While it does not seek to speak for everyone who has been sexually assaulted as a child, nor for everyone with borderline personality disorder, it looks to help players get some sense of what carrying this trauma is like, building empathy, rather than demonization, for those who suffer.
After Hours is slated to release at the end of October. You can see developer Bahiyya Khan’s currently-released works on Itch.io.
