Visual novel Seers Isle has a group of shaman apprentices landing on the shores of a sacred island. As they progress through the wilderness on the lookout for the mysterious seers, they soon realize they’re not alone.
Great art direction and an absolutely lovely score sets Seers Isle miles apart from the competition. The sheer amount of different images are astounding. There’s no static background while characters are talking, and even the dialogues feel somewhat dynamic. The direction of these scenes is positively cinematic at times.
My first playthrough took roughly two hours, but the game encourages (even requires) you to repeatedly beat it for… reasons. Thankfully, holding the space bar let’s you skip all the dialogue you’ve previously encountered, so your next attempt will be significantly shorter.
The game’s faintly Nordic lore doesn’t feel derivative at all, and it is apparent that a lot of thought went into the plot and characters – who shall not be spoilt even one bit. In other words, Seers Isle is an excellent and evocative narrative game. If that sounds like something you’d enjoy and if the trailer below piques your interest, I really cannot recommend it highly enough.
