You’ll meet three very distinct cats during your time with Cateau, learning about each of the adorable animals as you work to befriend them.
Cateau, which was on display at the Sweden Game Conference this year, placed you on the streets of Paris. You lived there with your roommate, Roselle. Roselle is going through a difficult patch in her life and has withdrawn into her room and herself, but you are able to offer her a little bit of comfort from her old hobby of meeting and befriending cats she ran into throughout her day.
As you go about your day, you’ll meet three distinct cats, each with a unique personality, as well as their own likes and needs. You’ll need to watch for clues in the text and their behaviors to figure out how to best approach these animals and get to know them, doing so through decisions on how you intend to behave with them. If you can figure out their clues and needs, you’ll slowly grow closer to them.
Whether you do well or not, you can take the story of your relationship back to Roselle, who will offer advice if you’re going about it the wrong way, or compliments if you’re doing well with your kitty pals. Cateau shows a delicate hand with the concept of depression here, as it does not suddenly cure Roselle to talk to her about her hobby, but rather shows small, hopeful steps taken by someone who cares about her.
Cateau offers a short, but charming and thoughtful experience, as well as some truly cute fuzzy friends to make.
Cateau is available for free on Steam.
