Want candy? You’d better start planting flowers wherever you walk, all while dodging things that don’t care for you beautifying the place in arcade game Citrouille.
Planting flowers on every surface while outfoxing cute monsters might not seem like much of a challenge, but Citrouille doesn’t want to make it too easy on you. Witches Praline and Vanille cannot jump as they explore, meaning you’ll need to carefully choose your route through the game’s fifty (plus) levels across five colorful lands. You can call upon a magic ladder to help yourself out in a jiffy, or pick up some handy weapons, should things get dicey.
Citrouille‘s flower-planting action simply begs to have a partner for your gardening efforts, which you can totally do in local co-op. That said, your weapons aren’t very good at distinguishing friend and foe, and you share a life bar, so be sure not to clobber each other too much lest you defeat the point of bringing your pal. If things get a little heated, you can always settle things in the game’s versus modes, with up to four players fighting to plant the post flowers or slap each other silly.
Citrouille‘s bright, adorable characters, animated foes, and silly monstrosities look to offer you a challenging, yet enticing time. If you’re up for a challenge and a take on the cuter side of Halloween, it should make for some fun for you and your witchy friends (and foes).
Citrouille is available for $9.99 on Itch.io and Steam.
