External Visions‘ protagonist finds solace from his depression in an imaginary world he created, finding happiness in the people he meets there (and in fighting robots and monsters there, too).
Imagining oneself as a capable action hero can be a fun form of escapism, External Visions‘ daydreams are a bit more dangerous than most. Pitting him against alien creatures, lethal machines, and musclebound cool guys, these visions require you gain some skills with the game’s various weapons if you want to make it out of this imaginary world. They all operate in unique ways, though, so you’ll have the tools you need to get through.
Weapons aren’t just for dealing with enemies, though, as each doubles as a tool that will let you access new areas and solve environmental puzzles. Whether by making bridges, controlling devices from a distance, or knocking blocks out of the way, they’ll all help you find handy secrets and new routes through the world.
Your explorations and meetings throughout the game world will bring you face-to-face with the manifestations of your fears and your past. These bosses will give you a hard time, but represent the protagonist’s journey to overcome what is keeping him down. If they’re a little too challenging, you can always buy some overpowered items at the shop to make things simpler for yourself with a meteor shower or two, though.
As a game that will let you shoot your fears in the face, External Visions aims to offer a hopeful diversion from some of the things that might be bothering you as well.
