Rival Megagun is a competitive shmup where you’ll be trying to interfere with the other player as you both blast through enemy ships, culminating in you turning into a boss to completely wreck their day.
Two players will steadily crawl their way through vertical stages filled with enemy ships in Rival Megagun. You’ll both be doing the standard shmup shooting and dodging, but as you take out enemies and begin to do well, you can start launching your own rockets at your enemy, your shots crossing onto their screen and making things a little harder. They’ll be doing this right back, though, so you’ll need to watch out as well.
As the match progresses, you’ll build toward unlocking a much more powerful form of your own ship. This Mega Gunship mode will turn you into a shmup boss, able to send shot cascading down on your opponent. Rival Megagun features multiple playable characters with their own unique boss modes as well, letting you find which powerful form you like to hose your foes with best. There’s also some unlockable gear that will give you the option to further customize how you do that as well.
With on- and offline matches (or a single player arcade mode if you just like giving the computer a hard time), Rival Megagun offers multiple ways to pick on other shmup fans. Just don’t get mad when someone else turns into a huge battleship that starts spraying lasers down on you.
Rival Megagun is available now on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One. It will release on the Nintendo Switch on December 6, 2018.
