Corrosion, a weaponized illness in a longstanding war, strikes too close to home when it afflicts Daryon’s mother, forcing the hero to choose between family and country.
Edge Of Eternity follows Daryon as he strikes out across the lush world of Heryon, helping those he meets as he searches for a cure to this sickness. Along the way, you’ll be able to help him make several difficult choices, dealing with the benefits and consequences of how you choose to complete various quests.
A natural consequence of travelling a world at war is combat, which you tackle with a turn-based system. It’s more than just which attacks you choose to use, though, as positioning will give you additional flanking damage, enemies can be lured into traps if you can lead them carefully, and you can enhance or craft gear using crystals that give you special power-ups and skills to use in a fight.
Edge of Eternity will have you meeting many varied characters who don’t necessarily want you dead as well, letting you get to know their hopes and dreams as you wander the world. Their stories may sometimes tug at the heartstrings, something which is helped along by a soundtrack from Yasunori Mitsuda, whose wonderful work you may have heard before in Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, and other titles.
Edge of Eternity seeks to contemplate hope as you search for the cure, fight monsters, and struggle to save those you care about through choice. It aims to show the struggle that hope entails, and the price it takes from us as we fight to keep it alive.
Edge of Eternity is available now on Steam Early Access.
Nice review. This sounds like a great game! The trailer is superb. Excellent voice-acting too. “If I can’t find a way, I’ll make one!”
