A series of nightmares lead Detective Steven O’Hara to work a suicide case, but this is only the beginning of the surreal events around him in Amber County.
Amber County follows O’Hara into a black and white world of haunting visions, bizarre stories, and chill music. You will have to help the detective solve puzzles and unravel the dreams he is having, all of which have ties to an unfolding series of strange cases in the small town.
Amber County‘s visual style loads the surroundings and characters with an unsettling vagueness, being perfectly clear yet oddly chilling in its lack of certain details (with characters especially). It feels real and yet not, telling you exactly what you’re looking at while leaving out enough of it that looking into this town carries this nagging sense of being unreal and unwelcoming. It’s a great effect to go along with the game’s Twin Peaks-inspired story and atmosphere.
The first chapter of Amber County is available for free on Itch.io.
I can listen to the soundtrack of this game all day. Not a single note was wasted. I remembered Wagner for some reason. Its visual style reminds me of the very first Persona game. I’ll definitely give this game a try.
