A_DESKTOP_LOVE_STORY has you helping a pair of files grow their love for one another. Finally, your system administrator powers can do some real good.
In A_DESKTOP_LOVE_STORY, you’re playing cupid with some files on your computer. They seem to be friendly enough at first, asking you to share some items with each other. As you help carry information between the two of them, their bond will grow. This will eventually reach a point where they want to be together, and your dragging and dropping abilities will complete this little match-making exercise.
True love takes time and patience, in A_DESKTOP_LOVE_STORY like in real life. If you shove the files together before they are ready, they’ll panic. Once they’re in love, though, taking them apart will make them cry. You monster. So maybe just leave them in their cozy digital nook. I suppose if you DO want to play the game again, though, you can make them both forget their love for one another with a command. YOU MONSTER.
Like Cyberpet Graveyard and many of developer Nathalie Lawhead’s works, A_DESKTOP_LOVE_STORY explores the connection between the player and the art itself, blurring the line between game worlds and real worlds. In actually moving these files, the main character becomes us, rather than us becoming the avatar of that character within the game world. In doing so, Lawhead’s work can explore true feelings of connection, warmth, and heartbreak through a touching story of loving files.
