We explore some of the adorable, yet surprisingly dangerous world of rogue-lite AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected in this IGP First Look.
AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected takes us to vibrant green fields as we try to figure out why a bunch of rabbits seem to be doing dangerous construction around our house. While this is rude, the spiders, octopi, and explosive-lugging folks that are hanging out in the nearby caves are even less polite. Still, they all look gorgeous in the game’s art style, so they’re probably just upset that I’m messing up their look by whacking them in the face with a stick.
We’re not doing it alone, either, as AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected lets us bring a friend along as well. With a collectible item, you can pick up an NPC buddy to help in combat, although they get tired fast as you use their abilities. Plus, they tend to see the world differently, as you’ll see with our old buddy with the broken glasses. He flings fireballs, so I can handle an obscured viewpoint.
Just…don’t expect us to live for long. This is a roguelite, after all.
AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected is available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. It will be releasing on Steam on February 13, 2019.
