You’ll want to keep up the beatdowns if you want to maintain a steady flow of cash in Streets of Red: Devil’s Dare Deluxe. Because money is all that will let you revive.
There are a lot of gross creatures wandering the roads and alleys (and other gruesome places) in Streets of Red. Luckily, you can bring four players into local co-op to deal with the onslaught, with each of you being able to choose from the game’s six playable heroes. Each of the characters can be upgraded to increase their power in a bloody scrap, letting you get stronger as the enemies get tougher.
That said, upgrading your abilities costs money, which you can earn from killing monsters. Doing your character’s Fatality move will net you even more money as well, allowing you to get more upgrades quicker. However, Streets of Red uses that same cash to revive you should you fall in combat, so you will want to save some money for when something finally takes you out. Just don’t go broke, though, or your run will be over (and your save will be gone with it).
Streets of Red might sound brutal with its perma-death challenge, but the game encourages you to take different routes through the game, giving you new stuff to do should you have to start over. Not only this, but depending on the order that you tackle areas, you’ll also find upgraded versions of the bosses, adding even more variety on your next run.
Streets of Red aims to kill you, and do so often, but at least it gives you something new every time you get your corpse back into the action.
Streets of Red : Devil’s Dare Deluxe is available now on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Steam.
