You thought managing a park or city was tricky? Try Dawn Of Man (from the makers of Planetbase), where you won’t be at the top of the food chain, but must survive against predators to ensure your colony’s safe for centuries to come.
It’s the Stone Age, and humankind is here and ready to settle in the wild lands. You just might have to ward off some of the local animals to secure your spot, though, as mammoths, woolly rhinos, cave lions, and other beasts aim to cause you just as much trouble as the barren, brutal winter. Even though they are dangerous to confront, with the right tools you may be able to prevail against them and harvest hides and bones from their carcasses.
Good strategists will know that, while hunting is necessary to survive, they’ll need more than one resource to secure their safety in harsher seasons. In spring, fishing will be your best bet, and fruit is plentiful in summer – just keep an eye on your environment because you will want to have lots of food and clothing stockpiled for winter. If you advance your colony far enough, you’ll be able to grow vegetables and domesticate animals for their by-products and their muscle power.
Your enemies won’t be just animals and cruel winters, as raiders are also waiting just outside your doorstep to pilfer your hard-earned rewards. As you research new technologies and expand, you’ll be the target of these attacks, since your village is so plentiful.
With a bigger village, also comes more problems from within. You’ll have to make sure your citizen’s needs are met so that your morale stays full, and keeping up supply with demand is going to get tricky with an ever-growing village.
Players will be able to appreciate how much research went into making Dawn Of Man as they see how our ancestors fared against the elements, as well as their strides in engineering (like inventions to ease the difficulties of transporting huge minerals from mines). If this era interests you and you think you have the brains and brawn to survive, Dawn Of Man will present an educational challenge.
Dawn Of Man is available on Steam.
I have not looked into any colony simulation games since The Sims, Planetbase, and Banished.
I feel like Dawn of Man will make me appreciate indie games that involves building settlements.
Madruga Works impressed me with their space simulation game called Planetbase, so I have a feeling Dawn of Man will do great as well.
Thanks you for sharing!
