You wouldn’t think a carrier pigeon flying to the wrong kingdom could change the course of history, but if you can’t get the mail right in Pigeon Coup, you’ll reshape quite a few lives.
In Pigeon Coup, your job is to attach messages to pigeons and fling them towards the correct kingdom. This allows correspondence between kingdoms, and a lot of your messages contain sensitive information. So sensitive that, should it end up at the wrong kingdom, it might spark a war or coup. Or some other unpleasantness. Suffice to say it’s an awful lot of responsibility for someone who just took up the job this morning.
Depending on where you fling your message and pigeon, you’ll cause a chain reaction of events that will lead to many of the game’s multiple endings. Naturally, you can shoot for these on purpose, looking at your messages to see where they’d be most damaging to send to, or you can try to help all of the kingdoms get along by doing your job just right.
With the game’s silly visual style, the latter may be difficult to do. You don’t so much send these pigeons on their way with a pat on the back, but rather hurl them off into the sky. Seriously, your throwing arm would probably be better served in some other capacity. Here, though, watching a pigeon just hurtle off toward a kingdom in the distance inspires a sense of mischief. You’re supposed to be behaving yourself with the serious politics of Pigeon Coup, but it’s hard not to give in to the ridiculousness of the pigeon throw.
Pigeon Coup is playable for free on the game’s site.
