OBAKEIDORO! pits three humans against a ghostly pursuer, having them struggle to stay away from a phantom that means to snare them.
For whatever reason, some children have decided to play tag with a ghost. If all three of them can last a set amount of time, they’ll win the game. However, they’re bound by the pesky rules of reality and have to sneak around objects, where the ghost can go wherever it pleases. They do have a lantern they can use to stun the ghost with a burst of light, though, giving them a bit of an edge.
Being the ghost has some great advantages. Since you can phase through walls, you can also hide within objects, if you’re careful. Bust out of a mausoleum to snag a kid? Don’t mind if I do. The ghost’s grab needs a bit of wind-up time, but if you use it with the right timing, you’ll find yourself quickly putting captured kids in prison. The little sneaks can hit two buttons on the side of the central cell to release the kids you’ve captured, so you need to work quickly or carefully.
The resulting play that comes from all of these mechanics is fun and frantic, with ghosts carefully plotting their paths or outright rushing their prey as the three kids work together to keep the ghosts stunned and outpaced. Only one kid needs to make it to the end of the time limit for their side to win, so you’ll have to be a thorough ghost if you want to be the victor. Whatever your plan, it looks to make for some lighthearted horror fun when it releases on the Switch.
OBAKEIDORO! is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can follow its creation on the game’s site and Twitter.
