Your dog’s missing, and you’ll need to hop your way through some colorful, vibrant, adorable worlds of treacherous, yet silly, hazards to bring them home.
Drawing inspiration from Donkey Kong Country and Mario titles, Ayo the Clown follows the title character across eight worlds of devious, playful mechanisms that stand between you and your missing pup. Ayo’s a skilled clown, though, and can put balloons to use to help him float, create a sword to fight with, or toss a water balloon at his troubles. Not that the cheerful clown is above using a tank or helicopter to also get the job done. You mess with Ayo’s dog, you get what you deserve.
The game’s platforming stages aim to showcase a variety of different mechanics and styles, from dodging 3D objects swinging in from the background to flipping gravity to clinging to rotating cogs to getting drawn in by space ships. Each of the eight areas looks to offer something new to those who explore them, offering constant new dangers to test the clown.
You’re not just out to save your dog, either. You can travel to a hub world filled with friendly folks who could use your help, giving you some side tasks that will give you new goodies to customize Ayo’s look. You can also get some silly collectibles to round out your clowny toys. What’s a clown without a rubber chicken, after all?
