Splattering your friends all over an arena is nice, but it feels so much more appealing when you’ve got an audience cheering for you and an announcer shouting about your skills.
Hot Shot Burn pits four local or online players against one another in futuristic gladiatorial combat, where they’ll try to shoot each other until only one is left standing. As the audience roars (or boos) and the announcer makes fun of the dead and dying, you’ll guide your chosen hero (Galactic wrestler? Moth assassin?) to victory. Since each of them has their own neat powers, how you earn that victory is up to you.
Not that your own weapons are your only tools. Each of the game’s many arenas is lined with hazards that you can put to use if you’re clever. Sometimes beams come blasting through certain parts of the landscape. Sometimes things bounce you around. If you watch out for these things and try to lure your opponents into them at the right time, you can give yourself a bit of an edge. If you’re inattentive (like a certain journalist is), you just might find yourself going all to pieces at a bad time.
With some wild characters to choose from and some wacky arenas to battle in, Hot Shot Burn should bring some chaotic, ridiculous cartoon fun to your next game night with your buddies. That or you can really agitate someone over the internet if you prefer to be outside of strangling range when you win.
Hot Shot Burn is available now on Steam.
