We take the Switch release of excellent beat ’em up Fight N’ Rage out for a spin (and make it a whole lot farther than we did last time) in this IGP First Look.
On our new, Switch-based attempt to free he human race from mutant overlords, we face down clawed cat chefs, wrestling cheetahs, martial arts monkeys, and one big dog that looks like it watched too much UFC at the pub and now just wants to fight someone. Unfortunately for them, we took the irate, extremely effective fighter Gal out with us, laying down many a quick, merciless beatdown. They were some satisfying, too, as she pummeled six or seven enemies at once with a flurry of punches. I don’t know if I’ve gotten better since the last time I played, or if Gal has been buffed a bit, but she’s a very effective fighter now that can easily stomp most enemies through sheer punching speed.
The sounds of the punches just add this final, lovely touch to it all. There’s a weighty crunch to each hit, with some fantastic visual delay that makes you feel those blows landing, making you feel very powerful. Well, that and you punching a bison out of midair (one who you owed a rematch since the last First Look). The Switch version is just as enjoyable as the Steam release, and if you’ve ever enjoyed a beat ’em up before, this is easily the best I’ve played in years, and definitely a contender for the best I’ve ever played.
Fight’N Rage is available now on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam.
