Slimes, long reviled for their work in service of evil lords and bad dragons, now seek to do some good by turning on their cruel masters in this deck-building game.
Rise of the Slime follows a lone heroic slime battling across the countryside as it tries to get a fancy crown. It’s a winner’s crown. The kind of thing that makes people think “Why are they wearing a crown out in public? Do they think they’re better than me?” Anyway, you want it, and so you’ll need to put together a deck of attacks that will get you through the various swamps, forests, castles, and lava-filled areas that lie between you and your coveted headgear.
While folks aren’t real keen on letting you just have the crown, it’s hard to get mad at them. There are so many cute enemies and characters in this game that you can’t help but smile (and possibly feel some guilt over dousing them with acid). It’s quite charming, even if these things do want to stomp you into a slightly less mobile puddle of goo.
Rise of the Slime offers premade runs and maps for those who want to build a specific strategy and beat known and memorized threats, but it also has random maps if you prefer to react to challenges and rebuild your strategies on the fly. With over a hundred cards to fight your adorable enemies with, you should be able to come up with a lot of different plans to help bring you that crown.
Rise of the Slime is available now on Steam Early Access.
