Lakeview Valley sees us trying to eke out a life in a small toy (by becoming a serial killer) in this weeks’ IGP First Look. But we probably should have just been law-abiding citizens.
CONTENT WARNING – Violence, Gore
A bus takes you to a new town, and you’re just pleased to find a place for yourself within it. Now, you can try to make friends with the locals, doing chores for them and improving your standing. You can also work on your house and pretty up your yard. Find some stones in the lake to get your sauna working so you can relax. Or, you can go down our route and try to become a serial killer.
Serial killing is not so simple in the world of Lakeview Valley, though. People don’t enjoy it when you hit them in the head with a wrench, and everyone in this town seems to work out in their spare time. Almost everyone is more than capable of beating you down in the street, so you’ll want to have something more effective than a small tool to fight with. Also, even if you do get the drop on someone, they tend to run off and grab the sword-wielding sheriff, and he’s having none of your troublemaking. The sheriff will also investigate crimes and the evidence you leave behind if you somehow pull off a kill (which we absolutely did not until some nasty circumstances went down).
Despite this serious killing work, the game’s visual and musical style loan it a goofiness that keeps the potential gore from becoming stomach-churning. You can also just not do those things and figure out the mystery of the town, too, but if you’re looking for a grimy, violent Animal Crossing, you ought to try Lakeview Valley.
Lakeview Valley is available now on Steam.
