You’re not supposed to be using magic, but it’s all you really have to defend yourself with in the lethal, yet colorful wave-based FPS Arena.
Well, you goofed up and got caught using magic. It’s off to the gladiatorial battles with you. Maybe next time you should keep your cantrips to yourself. For now, you’ll have to put a variety of damaging spells to work for you so that you can blast through sixteen levels of enemy fights. Maybe after that, they’ll let you go. After all, if you kill everything they throw at you, how exactly do they expect to stop you from blasting your way back out of the place. It’s kind of hard to enforce the law if you’re too powerful, right? Plus it’s a garbage law, anyway.
You’ve got choices out of four spells and two upgrades, of which you can buy a greater variety by winning rounds against the enemies. The game’s varied enemies all work in different ways, so you’ll want a bunch of different spells to tackle each group and its unique mechanics. Don’t let your guard down because things look a bit silly due to the game’s playful acrylic-painted menagerie of foes. They may look cute (as does the rest of the game world), but they’ll still stomp you flat if you move too slow.
Arena is a compelling experience for those who like fast-paced FPS games, doing so with a visual style that really makes it stand out in the genre.
Arena is available now on Steam.
