While most of the enemies in Mortal Shell are quite capable of demolishing your vulnerable body, you’re free to hop in a new one to fight again another way.
You’re in constant danger of dying throughout your journey through this game’s cruel world. The beasts that inhabit this place aren’t terribly keen on your being here, and they’ll make that quite clear should you blunder into their line of sight. They’re all capable warriors, so expect them to use crafty tricks as they relentlessly beat you down. It won’t take long to die at their hands (which isn’t exactly unexpected when the game is inspired by the Souls series) if you don’t take care in battle.
Since these things are good at ripping bodies to pieces, it’s a good thing that you have several bodies to choose from. Other warriors who’ve died before you have left their bodies behind, and you can just go ahead and borrow their flesh suits when you stumble across them. Each will have its own fighting style, and as you (literally) get more comfortable in their skin, you can hone their abilities and grow them. If you really like a body, you can get pretty dang good with it. Just try not to let some giant knight smash it against the hard ground.
Mortal Shell offers an interesting take on the genre with its bodies, each offering an intriguing build that might best suit whatever play style works best for you. At worst, at least it won’t be YOUR body that gets cut up when you mis-gauge an attack.
Mortal Shell will be made available today on the PS4, Xbox one, and the Epic Games Store.
