Love (and love lost are strangers) to no one. When The Past Was Around is a cathartic trip through the trials and tribulations of how love grows, fades, and all the moments in between.
Following the tale of Eda, you will experience one of her life’s greatest lessons: love. Coming along this journey is a mysterious owl-like figure who shares in this experience and its end. The game takes the form of a point and click, but that genre description doesn’t really encapsulate what the game delivers. As you solve intricately-designed puzzles that illustrate memories and key moments in a fledgling relationship, you’ll be drawn into it yourself. Nothing is out of place in this world and everything serves the grand purpose of telling a romance story in all of its glory and ruin.
Whether you’ve been in, are in, or have lost love – you are sure to experience great empathy for these two characters trying to navigate the delicate nature of the relationship. Relaxing moments with coffee, musical hymns to complement a soft atmosphere, or bitter moments of sadness – this game will take you through all the ups and downs to illustrate romantic companionship in all of its many colors.
When The Past Was Around shows a doesn’t shy away from any of the dark corners of its relationship story (and we know this from some past experience with the game), which only helps to illuminate those peaceful moments of happiness. I don’t think I’ll have enough tissues when I take this emotional journey, but I could never pass up such a beautiful experience.
When The Past Was Around is available now on Steam.
