Tanuki Justice will have you and a buddy tossing shurikens in every direction to deal with an onslaught of bizarre foes making trouble in Feudal Japan.
I don’t know what’s got you and your sister so riled up and ready to toss and endless barrage of sharp blades at all of these creatures, but I guess I don’t really need a reason. It’s a video game, and bad things are happening so it’s time to be a video game hero and kill thousands of people. Because you’re the hero. And so is your friend. Well, that or YOU’RE the villains and you should feel very sorry. But you won’t, because using rapid-fire shuriken shots to mow down enemies is kind of a blast.
The game throws you in a variety of different locales, each chock full of things that don’t take well to have shurikens thrown in their faces, Mega Man 2 Metal Blade style. This multi-directional weapon is highly effective since you can toss it in just about any direction you like, encouraging you to always stay on the offensive. If being able to shoot any way you like isn’t enough, you can bring a friend with you to double your firepower in co-op. Things can get a little hectic with both of you on the screen, but the enemies are the ones who really suffer for it.
Tanuki Justice draws upon the action and narrative planning that came with many a solid NES or arcade game, offering some wild fights and compelling play. Although I really hope I find out a reason behind why all this stuff is happening once I play so I feel slightly less guilty for killing a few thousand monsters and animals.
Tanuki Justice will be made available today on the Nintendo Switch.
