The Button Witch follows Ellen throughout her internship at a spellcasting academy, solving puzzles and riddles alongside a cute rodent companion.
Joining Ellen on her quest promises to be a wonderful journey filled with a variety of different puzzles. Riddles, math brainteasers, and escape rooms aim to keep your mind busy. Seeing as you’re a witch, you’ll also be solving some puzzles with magic, using light spells to illuminate things or magnet magic to move metal around. You’ve got a few more spells to uncover as you meet the adorable cast as well, so long as you’re making progress through the game’s confounding mechanisms.
The cast is where this game really shines, showcasing an array of lilypad magicians, chill monsters, and our ghostly squirrel companion (which looks absurdly cute when it’s curled up in a teacup) who will leave you wanting to know more about them. They help make this world feel more magical and heartwarming, making for a place you enjoy visiting simply for the enchanted company you’ll get to keep while there. The lovely art only compounds this feeling, with the music continuing to crank up its delightful nature. Can a game be aggressively charming? This one certainly seems to be making a case for that.
The Button Witch offers all manner of puzzles to keep you thinking and engaged in a variety of ways, and all while its cast will keep you coming back to learn more about them (and unravel the OTHER secret that brought you here).
The Button Witch is available now on itch.io and Steam.
