Blazing Rangers sees you putting out flames, rescuing kids, and dealing with demons. I love the logic of video games in the NES/Famicom era.
Fires have broken out in thirty-two different places (seemingly due to some undesirable demon influence), and Mimi and Popo are tasked with quenching the flames and rescuing trapped kids. Trouble is, a fire hose is only so long, so you’ll have to figure out the best path to drag it through in order to reach the fires you need to put out. Once you make a safe route, you’ll have to drop your hose and save the kids fast, as those flames are creeping ever-closer. Get everyone to safety and you win.
Both of the characters have their own special quirks that make each play differently, so you can vary up your play experience. The game also offers co-op if you want to bring another firefighter in with you. Doubling your hoses and water is probably a lot safer than walking into a burning building on your own, I’d think. It might be especially helpful while looking for the hidden secrets in each level. So long as your buddy came keep the flames off your back, it should be a little bit easier to look around.
Blazing Rangers is being produced for the NES/Famicom, so you’ll need an emulator for this one. It’s due to come out on actual cartridges for the two systems (and their European counterpart as well), so if you want to play this as it was intended, you might want to find out where that old NES console is lurking in your house these days.
A demo for Blazing Rangers is available now on itch.io. The full version of the game is slated for release in April/May 2021.
It’s so hard, but fun!
