8Doors: Arum’s Afterlife Adventure sees you striving to find your father’s soul in the realm of the dead, helping other lost souls along the way.
I’m not sure yet what has drawn Arum to head into the underworld, but she’s not going to have an easy time while she’s there. To find her father, she’ll have to pass through the 8 Doors of Purgatory, and there’s lots of troubling creatures to be found in each zone. Drawing from Korean folklore and myth (just as the setting does), these creatures offer many challenges. And a strange mixture of cute/horrifying sights as well. It’s a striking mixture, as they all look pretty endearing, while at the same time being the sorts of things I’d definitely be afraid to think about after dark.
That art style is definitely what makes these creatures seem so appealing when they’re definitely going to give me (cute?) nightmares. The game features hand-drawn animations to bring its creatures, places, and characters into existence, creating smooth motions when something’s trying to bite your face off. Your own attacks look just as good, which is nice to see as you flow through an array of different weapons to fight the monsters off with.
8Doors: Arum’s Afterlife Adventure takes you to all sorts of impressive places in the realm of the dead, and fills with it incredible creatures. That they all want to kill you is kind of a drag, but try to take some time to appreciate how they look before they cut you down. Or just try not to die. You’ve got dead folks counting on you, and you’re not much good if you join them.
