SuchArt is a futuristic painting game where your art can be flawed and crummy, but everyone pays you for it anyway. A utopia, basically.
In a world where art is perfect, having been created by robots for quite some time, you have found yourself in the rare position as the first human artists in years, due to your DNA. After receiving your DNA testing, you have been found to have a rare, genetic artistic ability, and thus have been given a studio on the space station humans live on.
Looking back to the United Earth, you can paint paintings for various different people, sell art directly on the marketplace, and increase your fame while bringing not-so-perfect art to the world. SuchArt has an interesting story, but much of the game is open and free to play, letting you decide what you want to paint and do. There aren’t instructions – just loads of different equipment to allow you to express yourself.
You start off with a small amount of money, but can find canvases around your studio. Otherwise, you can purchase different sizes, place them on various walls and easels, and start panting. You have a thick brush, a thin brush, and a roller, all of which can be dipped into paint that you can mix and create. There is basically any color you’d ever want instantly at your disposal. Your paint brushes, much like in real life, can be dipped between colors and mixed – and do slowly run out of paint as you color, making painting with less on your brush spotty yet realistic. There are options to spray paint, to put paint onto pallets, and more as you continue to upgrade your studio and build up a reputation.
Your contact with other people and robots is all done through email. You will be given various commissions, have communications with your (quite rude at times) sister, and interact with your own fans. As you take on commissions and start to build up a reputation, you can create art galleries that people can come and view. It’s all up to you, really; you can ignore commissions completely or just paint your studio if you’d like.
Dotted around, you can find sticky notes and a pamphlet about the crab-like aliens that are taking over United Earth – which is a wild storyline that might be explored as you continue playing. I only had the chance to look at a demo of the game, but so far, I am so impressed with the story through emails, the amount of freedom there is to paint whatever you want, and how fun the game itself is.
If you are a Twitch streamer, there is a whole mode dedicated to interacting with your audience, as well as a fast mode that is better suited for videos or streams (or just people who don’t have as much time to play the game). There is the main (longer) mode as well, and a freeplay-like mode too. SuchArt has a lot to offer for those who are really good at art and those who just like messing around with a canvas in outer space.
SuchArt: Genius Artist Simulator will be made available on July 14, 2021 on Steam.
