Toodee and Topdee are a pair of good buddies who work together across different viewpoints, using their unique perspectives to progress.
Mixing a top-down view and a sidescrolling view, the game tasks you with swapping between both perspectives to deal with its challenges. When one of them leaps in the air across lethal platforms, you can swap to the other to bring some platforms over to break your pal’s fall. However, switching perspective also means that your enemies now have new ways of getting around, so your top-down friend isn’t always safe. Then again, you could probably switch back and forth across perspectives to drop your enemies in a pit if you were clever, right?
These puzzles can get pretty devious over time, challenging you even if you feel pretty safe working with your top-down buddy (which you can also do through local co-op). The game has a handful of rules to keep up this challenge, but if you’re finding it a bit much, you can adjust some of the rules to something more your liking. Nobody wants to see you feeling miserable over a rough level when you’re just supposed to be having a good time with your buddy from another perspective.
Toodee and Topdee is a clever puzzle game that challenges you to keep re-examining the play space and how you can manipulate it to get through. You can come up with some wild solutions in the process, so it will be interesting to see the ways folks get through these challenges together.
Toodee and Topdee will be made available today on Steam.
