Instead of giving you a lousy chocolate each day, the Haunted PS1 Madvent Calendar 2021 brings new chills, grotesque sights, and terrifying encounters daily.
Horror is really at its best when it’s surprising and new. When you don’t know what to expect around the corner. It’s even better when you don’t even know what sort of game you’re getting into at all. That’s truly what I love about this collection, as, for the next twenty-four days, you’ll be getting some new adventure in terror. Is it a shooter? A fishing game? Will it be cute? Look scary? Every day, I get to walk into some new horror game without knowing anything about how it plays, what it looks like, or anything about it. I just have to open a door and walk through.
I have SOME idea of what I’m in for, though. The doors each have a title written on them to give you some indication, and the game takes steps to tell you how to play. Still, you don’t know if you’ll be staring at eerie phantoms or shooting plants in a game that looks like Crash Bandicoot, only with a hot dog as a protagonist. All you have to do is open yourself up to whatever comes and let the fear wash over you. That sense of the unexpected means I really can’t do anything to mentally prepare for what these games have in store. Can’t fall back on genre knowledge or anything to get ready. All you can do is experience these horrors as they arrive, which should make for an incredible experience
The Haunted PS1 Madvent Calendar 2021 has been out for a few days so you can sample some of its tricks to get a feel for its varied horrors, but if it’s anything like previous Haunted PS1 outings, there’s going to be some truly choice scares within.
