A town full of litterbugs really needs your help in Recycle Team, a game about picking up as much trash as you can despite folks continually making messes.
In a cute, pixelated world, it is much easier to stop things like littering! So, Recycle Team, made for My First Game Jam, has you trying to clean up your town as quickly as possible, upgrading your tools as time goes on. It’s a quick game that won’t take much of your time, but it is delightfully compelling.
In this game, you can choose your character, then enter the map. This world isn’t too big – it’s an average town with people walking around, enjoying their day. But, there is one obvious and big issue; trash is everywhere. Banana peels, water bottles, paper. You have been tasked with both picking up trash and giving fines to anyone that decides to throw garbage on the ground when you are around.
As you explore the world, you automatically pick up any trash you walk over, which will then fill up your bag. If your bag is too full, you will walk slowly, so you need to place your trash in cans often. You can sprint, but this is limited, so you need to make sure you don’t use it all up! When you are near people, you can interact with them, giving them fines for extra points.
Trash cans, of course, can fill up when you place trash in them, so you will need to move around quickly and find places where you can dump your trash. Only garbage in the trash cans count towards your points. At the end of each round, you can use these points (though you do lose some for fining people who haven’t recently littered) to purchase power-ups that will help you in the next round.
Watching the percentage getting close to 100% clean is really satisfying, and there is something compelling about trying to make this town nice and tidy for the people there. If only they’d help themselves and it wasn’t you against the timer – and them!
