Aeon Drive is a fast-paced puzzle platformer where you are literally playing on borrowed time, rushing to beat tricky stages on short time limits.
In this game, you find yourself in Neo Barcelona. Here, you need to run around, dashing through the city while avoiding robots and bending the realities of time as you try to stay alive. You and your helpful robot person need to survive in this world and time is ticking down.
Aeon Drive is an intense platformer with a lot of buttons for you to remember. I have not recently played a game that was this intense, and found myself fumbling with the buttons. I feel Aeon Drive might be best played with a controller, but that might just be me. Either way, in each level, you will find yourself throwing a little device that can kill enemies, stick to buttons, or attach to walls, that you can then teleport to. This device is really helpful, as you will need to get around levels quickly.
Along with this, you have the ability to slide, slash your sword, dash, and consume vials that give you more time. These vials are all around each level, but you seem to need to grab a few of them before you can drink them and add to your time. All of your time is currently borrowed, though, and continually counts down. Thankfully, you are able to warp time and space around you. You just need to do it very fast.
The levels in Aeon Drive have multiple routes to get through them, with no specific direction that you need to follow, which sometimes tripped me up while I played. Sometimes I would chase the vials and end up back at the start of the area because I circled back instead of just pressing forward. Knowing when your time is running out and using your vials will really help you, but you do need to spend some time collecting them.
Aeon Drive can also be played as a multiplayer game where you and your friends can rapidly move through the level together, collecting vials, and hopefully communicating with each other so that there are some vials left for your pals. It looks like pure chaos when you play with your crew of buddies!
Aeon Drive is available now on Steam.
