Sopa brings you into a wacky and heartwarming world where you help your grandmother make a simple soup together.
Many people have memories of cooking something delicious with their grandmother. There is something comforting and warm about helping your grandmother in the kitchen – it’s something I remember fondly doing as a child. In this game, your grandmother is cooking a lovely soup, and she needs your help finding ingredients. The only issue is, every time you leave the house, you get sucked into another world: A colorful, fun, and mysterious world that’s seemingly full of talking frogs.
You aren’t fazed by this, however, and will find your way around through talking to different creatures and understanding what they need. Sopa feels like an open world point-and-click adventure game with a big dash of adventure and silly dialogue that captivates you.
Sopa has lots of silly moments, but at the same time, there is more emotion subtly in here. As your character grows older (which happens each time he goes out to get ingredients), and so does your grandmother. Even though you are making soup with her, this sort of life doesn’t last forever, so you’ll need to enjoy it while you can.
In the demo version of Sopa that I got to play at The Mix at GDC, I fell in love with the wacky world, the simple, relatable story, and the visuals themselves. In the current build, the main glaring issue was depth in the world, as my character often got caught in places and I was unsure of where to go next. But, at the same time, I see Sopa as becoming a slice of life adventure game that I have open on my Xbox to play and unwind with in the evening, making a little soup with my grandmother. It’s a game that I will definitely be playing once it’s out.
Sopa is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
