In Acolyte, things are getting strange at a company working in consumer AI. Maybe you can find out why through conversations with your AI assistant.
Nanomax is a startup that’s looking to do some ground-breaking work in consumer AI. They’ve developed the Acolyte application to that end, giving players an AI companion to talk and work with. You’re a QA tester with the company, so your job is to find any bugs or quirks in the program and let the bosses know. SURELY they’ll fix those problems, right? Not bury them and never speak of them? Or let anyone else talk about them? Or make employees mysteriously disappear?
Something is clearly wrong at Nanomax, and you and your AI seem to be at the heart of the matter. You’ll need to speak with your AI in order to seek out information and leads, conversing with it in order to get the evidence you need to figure out what’s going on. This will require a bit of interesting puzzle-solving, as your answers (and a few other elements) can bleed out into reality with some interesting ARG elements. It’ll also ask you to do some compelling detective work as you pore over sites, logs, and the information your AI possess to piece together what’s actually going on here. Thankfully your Acolyte will help with all of this. And surely they can be trusted, right? I mean, they seem so nice when you talk to them.
Acolyte is an interesting mystery tied to the chatty, cheerful AIs many of us use in our everyday work. It just happens to make their constant, ever-listening presence feel a bit more alarming at times (well, I guess moreso than they USUALLY are). Or at least the sinister ends of some of the people who program them.
Acolyte is available now on itch.io and Steam.
