IMMORTALITY sees you exploring what remains of three movies and the interviews/documentaries surrounding them, trying to discern the fate of an actress.
Marissa Marcel was a talented actress with a promising career. Her first two movies were never released, though. After a long hiatus, Marcel returned for a third film, but this also never released. And the actress was never seen again afterwards. Thankfully, a great deal of footage from the three movies, as well as many different behind-the-scenes moments and interviews were uncovered, giving some insight into Marcel’s career and what happened. With the help of some handy film editing and reviewing tools, you might be able to figure out what happened to her.
Much of your time with the movies will involve poring over pieces of footage, finding connective pieces between them and other movies. Props, actors, and other elements in one segment of the film will tie into pieces of another. All you have to do is click on an element in the film and it’ll hop you to another film. Finding these connections will slowly unveil various elements of each of the films, but you’ll need to think about the meanings and symbolisms behind what you’re examining to find the connections between them all. You can also move through the films at high speed, rewind them, and move forward frame by frame if you think you’ve found something profound. You might not always like what you find, though.
IMMORTALITY is a riveting mystery given to you in tattered pieces, asking you to reconstruct events and then find the truths that tie them all together. It’s a complex task, but as things start to fit together, it becomes impossible to look away no matter how chilling the answers are. It’s the most captivated I’ve been since the Return of the Obra Dinn – an incredible, intelligent, and chilling puzzle where the answers don’t come easily.
IMMORTALITY is available now on Steam.
