You Call The Shots tasks you with mashing and hitting buttons with the right timing to complete a handful of famous movie scenes with style.
This game tasks you with hitting a button with the correct timing for each of its varied movie scenes. You might have to mash a letter for an eating contest, tap it as you’re about to swing your sword, or hit the letter b just right to blow the doors off of something. The basic mode offers some prompts to tell you when to hit the button, but not always. It’s much easier if you know the film in question, as you’ll have a better idea on when to tap the letter. If you don’t, it’s a short game, so you’ll get it down in time.
There are two different modes in the game, and each offer you different movie clips to work through. Extra mode mainly felt like it was the harder of the two, requiring you REALLY know the movie in question (they’re all well-known and “fair use”). The game has been created with a great sense of humor, making clever use of a handful of famous scenes in creative ways to crack you up. It’s light, quick, and funny, and I think it might make a neat concept for a longer game. Getting the rights to do so would probably be a nightmare, though. As is, the only shame is that nothing much changes whether you pass or fail. It’s not like the developers can re-shoot these movies, after all.
You Call The Shots is a brief, but delightful concept where you can flex your movie memories alongside your button mashing skills. I just need to really work on my timing to finally get a decent score at the game. You’d think I’d know when to learn kung fu by now.
