Sleep Swimmer escapes from the hectic pace of everyday life to a world under the sea, collecting sounds and helping people to wile the days away.
We often find themselves overwhelmed in the rush of our current society. There are so many different pressures that are constantly pushing themselves on people: bills due, work deadlines to meet, housework to complete, messages from friends to answer. Sleep Swimmer takes you into a world where a young girl has gotten so overwhelmed with the world that she is now visiting salamanders in the sea. You play as a young adult who has wandered off into a world in the sea. There are a bunch of salamander-like creatures who all have simple hobbies and simple needs. They hang out in big homes with their shrimp pets and are all looking for small acts of kindness to help them along. As the new person in the town, you are welcomed.
And you start to collect sounds to play around with. The various sounds that you collect can be used to create different music, which is another relaxing aspect to the game. This is done through a controller-looking menu that has different buttons for you to use to play the sounds you’ve gotten. Ones that you have not received still show icons, providing little hints as to what you are looking for next.
The Mayor, who seems like a really untrusting guy, needs your help with the town, but it’s quite a low-pressure activity. You can then spend some time exploring the different houses, interacting with nice creatures, and trying to help wherever you can. One salamander needs some pet food, allowing you to record their pet’s sounds once they are fed. Everyone seems to help each other in Sleep Swimmer, and the characters are all calm – not overwhelming and demanding like the ones in the real world can often feel like. And there is something relaxing about the way you float, swimming through rooms and finding new locations to explore.
Sleep Swimmer is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can follow its development on Twitter.
