Dogurai takes a canine samurai out of retirement to battle an army of nasty robots that have taken over everything. Time to stab your way to world peace!
All the world’s police and armies have been replaced with robots. Unfortunately, their single creator creator has decided to take this opportunity to assume control of everything. This means a whole lot of machines are running around the streets shooting at folks. Plus, a general lack of maintenance on all kinds of dangerous devices judging from all of the leaky hot steam pipes, open pits, and other video game-y hazards all over the place. If only there were some sort of high-jumping, bullet slicing anthropomorphic canine hero who could save these people from all of these robots!
That’s where you enter this pea green Game Boy world. As the Dogurai, you’re able to jump and slash at the robots that have taken over. You can do a handy little slide to sneak under bullets (why did they send a poor dog without a gun to fight robots WITH guns?) or cut your way through them like a Cool Guy. Most foes fold pretty fast against our dog hero, but the bosses will put up a fair bit of a fight with some spectacular (and hard-to-dodge) attacks. You can tackle these foes in any order, Mega Man style, but you don’t gain any tools from beating them. You need to work with your basic slash and slide dash through the whole game, so best get good with them if you’re to smash all of these machines.
Dogurai is a straightforward throwback to many solid Game Boy games, providing a fun action game that will have you feeling pretty slick as you cut your way through enemy shots.
Dogurai is available now on the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, itch.io, and Steam.
