Do Not Feed the Monkeys 2099 sees you spying on people for unclear reasons, peering into their secret personal business. So long as you’re watching the cameras at the right time, that is.
To be honest, when I first loaded up the game, I had no idea what to expect. In this game, I seemed to be a part of some cult that felt that other people were monkeys. This cult wanted me to spy on them, interact with the world around them, and learn from them. I wasn’t entirely sure, but it was really fun to spy on people and try to discover what this cult needed me for.
Being a part of The Primate Observation Club allows you to look at various screens that show several different rooms. I could purchase more ‘cages’ or rooms to look into. During the day, these rooms change – people come in, they do their jobs, factories crank out products. The time in the game is always moving forward and you can see how it effects the people you are watching (as well as yourself). You are able to click on various items in these screens as well as orange words that you add to a word bank. You can look up these words on the internet, and you can also combine two words to see what they bring up.
You do have needs yourself like sleeping and eating, which will drain with time. You can spend money (and time) shopping for food to eat at home or you can eat out, though that is far more expensive. Sleeping also costs time. In Do Not Feed the Monkeys 2099, you can also spend your time doing side jobs as long as you decide to do them during the timeframe the job is available. The money you earn from these jobs is helpful. Plus, each job comes with a bit of story, which is entertaining. You will also get digital mail below your job listings – I feel like mine were primarily spam. My email had better messages for me. On your desk, you also have a little helper AI too, but they cannot say much, it seems. There are various events that happen each day in the game like new apps being added to your computer, new job options pop up, and people reach out wanting payment for money you owe.
Do Not Feed the Monkeys 2099 is an interesting game to play through. Watching hidden cameras and seeing what humans made me curious to know more. You’ll need to balance what times you are out with what times people might be talking or interacting with something you can click onto, though. Eventually, you might even be able to start directly interacting with them, hacking their systems, calling them, and more. It’s up to you!
Do Not Feed the Monkeys 2099 is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
