WHAT THE BAT? asks you how you’d brush your teeth, feed some cats, take a bath, or make some toast for breakfast if your hands were baseball bats.
Made by the same creators as the delightfully ridiculous WHAT THE GOLF?, this game sees you going about your everyday while you have baseball bats for arms and hands. You’ll be doing ordinary tasks like preparing food and keeping yourself clean, but things get pretty outlandish in a hurry, too. Play a little baseball with aliens on another planet. Steal some valuable art from a museum. Help a satellite find romance. You’ll be going through all sorts of oddball tasks that you’ll need to navigate with limited ability to move your arms.
Having bats for arms complicates a lot of the things you need to do. It’s kind of hard to bend them to reach things, and for the most part, you’ll be smacking a lot of stuff with these unique hands. This turns something as simple as making toast into a real challenge as you try to figure out how to move the bread into the toaster when you can’t move a whole lot. As this is a VR game, it’ll also drag you straight into the action as you put on some shows for cats in the middle of the road. You just need to be creative and careful about how you hit things. That or you’ll need to be very gentle. Either way, things get silly pretty fast.
WHAT THE BAT? has an absurd concept, but like the last game from the developer, it’s used in so many creative ways that it’s hard not to laugh at it. The game really does a good job of continually surprising the player with its levels and tasks, all of which will have you cackling as you figure out how to meet that challenge with your unique limbs.
WHAT THE BAT? is available now on the PlayStation Store, Meta Quest Store, and Steam.
